A 14-year-old elementary school boy from Katy, Texas, passed away in an accident while going to school on his bicycle on Thursday morning near Betty Sue Creech Elementary School on Mason Road and Cinco Park.
Authorities stated that the boy was killed when his bicycle was hit by a car while he was riding it on September 28, 2023. The fatal collision happened at 6:47 in the morning at Mason Road and Cinco Park road.
The collision was reported to authorities at around 7:35 AM; the boy was riding his bicycle to Cinco Ranch High School when he was struck by a car as he crossed the street in a crosswalk.
A kind stranger gave the boy CPR, but he was pronounced dead at the site because of his injuries. The car driver who hit the young boy was 20 years old; he pulled over the boy and helped the authorities. The accident is still being looked into.
He might be charged under the Lisa Torry Smith Act, also called the Crosswalk Law. Following the fatal incident on Thursday, Katy ISD said that drivers must completely stop to yield to any pedestrians or cyclists in the intersection.
Legally injuring a person while they are in a crosswalk is against the law. On June 18, 2021, Greg Abbott, the governor of Texas, signed the bill into law. In that September, it became effective.

The typical speed at which a car kills a pedestrian in between 22 and 35 mph, according to Fort Bend County Sheriff Eric Fagan. Twenty-two mph can be fatal. The 20 mph limit is in effect as a result.
Authorities observed the same tragedy in Fort Bend County twice in the past two weeks. However, no further details regarding the boy and the male driver have not been disclosed publicly.
