Edie Sedgwick, eat your heart out. Emma Stone may be a hair-color chameleon, but she rarely switches up her signature style — unless she’s covering Vogue, of course!
The La La Land actress, 27, graces the fashion bible’s November 2016 cover rocking a short pixie wig. The cropped ‘do, which is the shortest we’ve ever seen on the star, makes her big green eyes pop all the more.
To complete the cover’s classic styling, Stone wears a blue-and-white–striped Michael Kors crop top, the perfect complement to the issue’s election-themed, red, white and blue font. (The letters o, t, e follow the V in Vogue to spell out “Vote,” in case you need any encouragement!)
The accompanying spread features Stone in a series of Old Hollywood–inspired shots. Her hair is styled into glossy curls, and she’s modeling retro threads, all of which complement the old-school feel of her upcoming musical film, which features frequent costar Ryan Gosling and is already winning rave reviews.
“The reason I wanted to do it was because Damien was so passionate, but I think I freaked out 40 times,” Stone said. But according to director Damien Chazelle, there was no need. “Obviously it was a big swing to do an original musical where she’d have to sing and dance and the whole gamut on screen,” he said. “But Emma just has that presence. She’s a great comedian and also can be tremendously moving. She can play every single register.”
The usually tight-lipped Oscar-nominated actress also shared a note on her ex-boyfriend Andrew Garfield. “[He’s] someone I still love very much,” Stone said, and jokingly added, “I’m really glad you’re sitting down so I can tell you.”
