Accessories and Charging
RIM sent along some of the PlayBook's accessories: the BlackBerry Convertible Case, BlackBerry Rapid Charging Pod, Neoprene Sleeve, and BlackBerry Skin.
The Neoprene Sleeve and Skin are pretty standard fare. The BlackBerry Skin is incredibly soft and it seemed to fit the PlayBook a little loose, but it gets the job done if you want something low profile. The Sleeve is a good accessory if you need to protect the PlayBook during transport, but not during use.
What I really liked however was the Convertible Case. A well built case, the Convertible turns the PlayBook into something that looks and feels like a a thick Moleskin notebook. The case material is soft and feels high quality, and the PlayBook fits snug inside it. You can flip the cover around to turn the case into a stand for the PlayBook.
Unfortunately there's no smart cover-like functionality, magnets would've been really useful here. My only complaint is that although there's a cutout for the rear camera, you need to leave the front cover dangling when shooting, otherwise it'll cover the rear camera.
The Rapid Charging Pod is a nice looking dock for the PlayBook. It only works in landscape mode as it hooks up (magnetically) to the PlayBook's quick charge port. You can get a 90% charge in 2 hours, however the remaining 10% takes an additional hour. By comparison, the standard AC adapter over the USB port takes about 4 hours for a full charge and around 3 to get to 90%. The biggest issue with the Rapid Charging Pod is that you don't get HDMI output while docked since the HDMI port is covered.
